Book Review – Grit by J.C. Valentine

Gabby Morgan isn’t looking for love. Not even a little romance. Following a rocky past that she’d just as soon forget, she’s determined to focus on the future. One that most certainly doesn’t involve the tough-as-nails, short-on-words, hot-as-hell biker…or his kid.grit

Blake Mahone may not be done with women, but he’s finished with relationships. Then Gabby Morgan enters the picture. She’s flawless, refined, and as his kid’s teacher, way out of his league. She acts like she hates him, but her eyes tell a different story. Before he knows it, Blake finds himself hot for teacher, and he’s more than ready to learn all her secrets. Now all he has to do is convince her to give him a shot…without getting them both killed in the process.

4 out of 5 stars

I’m a sucker for a single dad, but add in a sexy motorcycle riding single dad and I’m sold.

Grit is the story of Gabby Morgan, a woman who is starting her life over as a kindergarten teacher.  The first day of school, one of her students shows up late, and then his dad is late picking him up.  When the dad, Blake Mahone, shows up, he instantly sets Gabby off.  She doesn’t like bikers and has some pre-conceived notions about them.

Blake is a single dad and the president of a “riding club”, which is basically a legal MC (no crime).  He’s doing his best to raise his son, Ash, on his own.  Blake is a true alpha male, which I LOVE.  But Gabby was tough and didn’t put up with Blake’s shit.  She quickly developed a bond with Ash, one that was very sweet.

The “club” wasn’t featured in the story too much, just a few guys, but it didn’t take away from the story.  Gabby had a back story that was very interesting, and added a little suspense to the story.

My only critique would be that this story would have been a five star book if it had been told in the first person.  I just feel personally that you can relate to the characters more when it’s from their POV.  That’s just my opinion though.  This was a good read, and I will continue to read the series.

Happy reading.
