Book Review – Hope Burns by Jaci Burton (Hope #3)

Molly Burnett dreads returning to her hometown of Hope for her sister’s wedding, especially knowing she’ll have to endure a weekend with the one man she never wants to see again. It’s only a couple of days, so Molly will try to forget her painful past with high school sweetheart Carter Richards. Because despite the bitter memories, she still can’t forget what they once meant to each other.

But when Molly is forced to extend her stay, Carter sees this as his second chance to do things right, to start over again with the only woman he’s ever loved. This time, he isn’t going to let Molly run. Together they’re going to confront the past and put it behind them, and hope for a future as bright as the flame that still burns hot between them.

2 1/2 out of 5 stars

While I love this series, and I am very invested in these characters, I could NOT get into Molly at all.  She didn’t make any sense.  What sent her running was super predictable and did not make any sense.  I know several people who have been in the same situation, but their reaction was never to run for twelve years.

Carter was a saint.  He put up with a lot of shit from Molly.  Shit he did not deserve – he made a mistake when he was 18 years old and Molly has never let him forget it.  I couldn’t get past this as a woman – guys fuck up.  Get over it.  Molly was a really not a likable character, and frankly, Carter was the only reason I finished this book.

I love this series, and I’m invested in the characters, so I will keep reading; but I really didn’t love this book.  I would only recommend because the series is good.
